About this Guide
This guide provides the basic steps for getting started using Sequoya Workflow Software, including establishing your credentials, creating a user login, creating a production, a sequence, shot, notes and assets. This is just the tip of the iceberg for Sequoya's features and functionality. For more detailed information about these and other features, refer to the User's Guide

Step 1 - Edit the Configuration File
  1. Locate Sequoya configuration file. It is named sequoya-config.py and is located in the config directory in the application bundle: {application-bundle}/config/sequoya-config.py
  2. Open the file for editing.
  3. Set the following parameters to the values contained in the e-mail sent to you:
    • "dbHost"
    • "accessKey1"
    • "accessKey2"
    • "accessKey3"
  4. Save and close the file.
Step 2 - Create a Sequoya User Login
  1. Launch Sequoya.
  2. Open a connection by entering your username and password.
  3. From the Navigation tree on the left, click Staff.
  4. On the Staff Form, click the Control Strip's Edit button.
  5. Press the New button and enter new user data, including password.
  6. Press the Save button to save the new account information.

Note: Day-to-day use of Sequoya is best left to a user account that has read|write, rather than admin, privileges. Thus, one of the first user accounts created should have read|write access.

Step 3 - Create a New Production
  1. From the Navigation tree on the left, click Production.
  2. On the Production Form, click the Control Strip's Edit button.
  3. Press the New button and enter new production data.
    • Name: short name, also used as production root directory name online
    • Description: production description
    • Prefix: special 4-character production identifier, used in asset identification (all-caps preferred)
    • Anticipated Sequences, Shots, Assets: anticipated number of items
  4. Press the Save button to save the new production information. Note that the production name appears in the Pick List under the thumbnail.
Step 4 - Add a Note
  1. From the Navigation tree, click the newly created production.
  2. On the Production Form, click the Control Strip's Note button ("/").
    • Priority: select color-coded priority level for note
    • Context: select note's context. For more information about context, refer to the User's Guide.
  3. Press the Save button to enter the note for the selected production. The Note will be displayed in the Note Panel List above the Control Strip.
Step 5 - Create a Sequence
  1. From the Navigation tree on the left, click Sequence.
  2. On the Sequence Form, click the Control Strip's Edit button.
  3. Press the New button and enter new sequence information.
    • Name: short name, also used as sequence directory name online
    • Description: sequence description
    • Production: select the appropriate production this sequence belongs to from the pulldown list
  4. Press the Save button to save the new sequence information. Note that the sequence name appears in the Pick List under the thumbnail.
Step 6 - Create a New Shot
  1. Create new shots by navigating to the Shot Form, then press the Control Strip's Edit button ("+").
  2. Press the New button and enter new shot information.
    • Name: short name, also used as shot directory name online
    • Alternate Name: possible alternative name used by client
    • Description: shot description
    • Dialog: futher identify shot according to sound or dialog cue
    • Sequence: select the appropriate sequence this shot belongs to from the pulldown list
    • Shot Type: select the appropriate type of shot from the pulldown list
  3. Press the Save button to save the new shot information. Note that the shot name appears in the Pick List under the thumbnail.
Step 7 - Set up your Production Directory Structure
You have the option of setting up how your production directory is organized. For more information, refer to the User's Guide.

Step 9 - Create an Asset
Note: You are not adding the asset itself to the database. Instead, Sequoya stores a reference to the asset. For example, if the asset is a digital file, Sequoya allows you to track the asset's location, status, and notes associated with the asset.

To add an asset:

  1. From the Navigation tree, click Assets.
  2. On the Asset Edit Form:
    • Name
    • Browse
    • Associate Staff...

Once Assets are added to the Sequoya database, they can be linked to shots and sequences. See Linking Assets to a Shot or Sequence.

Step 10 - Create Tasks
  1. From the Navigation tree, click Tasks.
  2. On the Task Edit Form, click the Edit button.
  3. Complete the following fields:
    • Status -
    • Name -
    • Description -
    • Task Type -
    • Assigned to -
    • Start Date -
    • End Date -
    • Link Type -
    • Link -
